‘COUNTRY ROAD’
In the ‘not so’ distant past the humpback Bridge was common on most country roads in Ireland but is now bypassed by large Motorways and fast traffic. This small narrow bridge was built to accommodate horse drawn “traffic”. If you travel in rural areas or through some small towns you are bound to come across one.

ACHILL ISLAND

Continuing on my series of Irish scenic spots this painting depicts Keem Bay which is situated on Achill Island, County Mayo (IRELAND). An isolated part of the island where the only sign of any habitation is an old disused coastguard station. This is an artist’s paradise!!. It is one of the most picturesque bays in Ireland. It is thought the artist Paul Henry painted his famous ‘launching the Curragh’ from Keem strand.

Captured in oils my interpretation of Keem strand. Painted on 8 X 10 ins primed board in thick impasto oil paints in a loose impressionist style.

‘The Potato Pickers’
I don’t think we ever give a thought to how the humble potato arrives on our dinner plate, but then again why should we! As I observed the local ‘spud’ farmers harvesting the crop even with the latest hi-tech farm machinery it is still very hard work on a very cold frosty September morning.
