‘Hill of the Witches’
High up on a hill at the highest point in County Meath (Ireland) in a place called Loughcrew stands this 5000 year old Stone Age passage tomb. One of a number of passage tombs to this area. These ancient structures are in fact older than the pyramids of Egypt. Situated on ‘Sliabh na Caillighe’ or the ‘Hill of the Witches’.

Legend has it that the witch jumped from hill to hill dropping stones from her apron to form the ‘cairns’. It is said in order to attain great power she needed to jump four hills, however after she jumped the third hill she fell and was killed and is said to be buried where she fell.

This is an Original Oil Painting that has been rendered with a knife in thick impasto oil paint on a 6 X 6 ins primed board.
